DIY and home renovation activities are one of the biggest contributors for non-work related asbestos exposure. Exposure to asbestos dust can pose serious health risks and result in costly remediation or clean up costs if handled incorrectly.

Having asbestos in your home does not necessarily mean an immediate cause for concern, however it can quickly become a problem if it is damaged or disturbed during the course of home repair, demolition or renovation works, the condition has deteriorated overtime, or through natural events like earth quakes or flooding.

Before starting any maintenance or renovation work on your home or property, ALWAYS think about asbestos and know exactly what you are dealing with to ensure you are not putting yourself, your family, or anyone else at risk.

                    Home Renovators Asbestos Package

Coleman Consulting can provide a non-intrusive presumptive survey to help identify and highlight any potential asbestos containing materials around your home that should be treated with caution when doing any renovation works or monitored for wear and tear.

Our Home Renovator Asbestos Surveys cost $450 +GST and includes a full written report on the location of any asbestos, or potential asbestos containing materials observed at your property and their condition. The report also includes recommendations on any areas where further testing should be considered and recommendations for ongoing management and safe work.

                    Protect Yourself & Your Family

Whether it is you, or a professional tradesperson doing the work, make sure you know where any asbestos containing materials might be hidden around your home or property, and take the appropriate precautions to minimise exposure risks.

                    Demolition & Refurbishment Surveys

If you are planning on doing any major refurbishment to your property such as demolition of internal or external walls we would strongly recommend engaging our services for a full survey of your property to ensure that no asbestos is present.

If you are engaging the services of a builder or another sub contractor to do the work, they should conduct a full pre-demolition survey on your property before any work commences.

We may occasionally recommend testing certain materials to determine whether asbestos is present or not. Samples can be taken during a presumptive survey for an additional cost. Our surveyors are fully trained in taking safe samples. Depending on the number of samples required and their locations, a seperate booking may be required.

                    Asbestos Testing & Sampling

Asbestos can be found in many New Zealand homes.

It comes in many forms due to its use in a wide range of building products. It is often hidden or mixed with other materials sometimes making it difficult to identify by sight alone.

Some of the common areas around the home that asbestos might be found include:

                    • Textured ceilings

                    • Vinyl floor covering & tiles
